The Challenge

UN Women engaged Insomniac Design to concept, design, and develop the world's first comprehensive gender data portal. UN Women takes a lead role in monitoring the implementation of gender-related targets and indicators, to track progress on global commitments to gender equality and womens' empowerment

The Process and Results

As the lead UX and UI designer, I partnered with UN Women's data team to design a responsive gender data portal that reimagines how both researchers and the general public engage with complex global datasets. The portal gives researchers powerful, flexible access to expansive data for academic and policy work, while offering everyday users an intuitive way to explore and visualize gender-related variables without any technical background.

I owned the full design process end-to-end — from defining the information architecture and mapping user flows, to producing wireframes, high-fidelity UI designs, and a fully clickable prototype. Responsiveness was a priority, ensuring a seamless experience across desktop, tablet, and mobile devices. Beyond the data visualization tools, the portal also integrates news, resources, and publications, positioning it as a comprehensive hub for gender equality research and advocacy.
